Liquid nitrogen remains liquid at atmospheric pressure at approximately -196 degrees Celsius, well below the point at which biological activity in cells and tissue effectively stops. This is why it is the standard medium for long-term storage of embryos, oocytes and sperm in IVF laboratories, and why consistency of temperature matters more than almost any other factor in cryostorage. Maintaining that temperature reliably over months or years depends heavily on the quality of the storage vessel’s vacuum insulation and how well the vacuum is maintained over the tank’s working life. Cryolab only supplies tanks built to a standard suited to clinical and research use, including our CryoNest storage vessels designed specifically for embryo, oocyte and gamete banking.
