A SYMS sealer is a heat-sealing device used in IVF laboratories and sperm banks to seal CBS High Security straws after filling with embryos, oocytes, or sperm for cryopreservation. The sealing step is a critical part of the straw preparation workflow — it closes the straw to prevent contamination and to secure the sample within the closed CBS High Security system before cryogenic storage or transport.

The SYMS sealer applies controlled heat to create a consistent seal across the standard CBS straw diameter. The quality and consistency of this seal matters because an incomplete seal creates contamination risk, and an overly aggressive seal can damage the sample or the straw material. SYMS sealers are engineered specifically for CBS straws and produce a repeatable seal that is compatible with the full CBS storage and vitrification system.

SYMS sealers are a standard item of equipment in any IVF laboratory or sperm bank using the CBS High Security straw system. They are available to purchase through Cryolab and are also available for hire through Cryolab’s Rental Department for laboratories requiring temporary access — for example, whilst a primary sealer is being serviced or replaced.
