A cryogenic system in a sperm bank is the integrated set of equipment and processes that enables sperm samples to be frozen, stored indefinitely, and subsequently thawed for clinical use. At intake, sperm samples are processed, mixed with cryoprotectant, and loaded into cryovials or straws. They are then frozen using either a controlled rate freezer running a validated slow cooling protocol or, in some units, by vapour nitrogen cooling. Frozen samples are transferred to liquid nitrogen storage vessels – large dewars organised by donor or patient identity using cryogenic canes, goblets, and racking systems. Temperature monitoring systems provide continuous surveillance with alarm escalation for any temperature deviation. Dry shippers enable sample transfer to recipient clinics on request. The entire system must be backed by documentation: chain of custody records, storage location records, maintenance logs, and calibration certificates. Cryolab supplies cryogenic systems for sperm banks and andrology units from a single source, worldwide.
