CBS High Security Sperm Straws are thin, sealable tubes designed to store cryopreserved semen samples at -196 degrees Celsius. Processed semen is mixed with a cryoprotective agent, drawn into the straw, heat-sealed using a CBS SYMS III Sealer, and cooled before transfer to a liquid nitrogen storage tank. Cryolab supplies both the standard CBS Sterile Clear PETG Sperm Straws in 0.25ml and 0.5ml formats and the CBS High Security range with hermetically sealed ionomeric resin construction that eliminates liquid nitrogen ingress during long-term storage.
The 0.25ml format is standard for human IVF and sperm banking, providing the thin wall and small volume that enable consistent cooling rates during the freeze. The 0.5ml format is widely used in veterinary reproduction for bovine and equine semen banking. High security straws are recommended wherever cross-contamination risk must be eliminated, including all HFEA-licensed human sperm storage facilities. Straws are stored inside CBS Classic Goblets or CBS Daisy Goblets held on cryocanes within cryogenic storage vessels. The CBS High Security Sperm Straw ID Jacket and Weighted ID Rods provide additional identification and handling options for busy andrology workflows.
