Compact cryosleeve covers, also called cryosleeves, cryo sleeves, or biological sample sleeves, are protective PVC or cardboard covers that fit over cryogenic canes inside a liquid nitrogen storage tank. They serve two practical purposes in an IVF laboratory: sample protection and organisation.
A cryogenic cane is the metal rod onto which goblets, straws, or vials are attached for storage within a canister in the liquid nitrogen tank. Without a cryosleeve, goblets and straws are exposed to physical contact with adjacent canes during retrieval, which can dislodge samples or cause damage. A cryosleeve fits over the cane and its contents, holding everything securely in place during handling and tank access.
Transparent PVC cryosleeves allow the embryologist to visually identify the colour of goblets and confirm cane contents without removing the sleeve. This supports the witnessing and sample verification protocols required in HFEA-licensed laboratories. Cryosleeves are particularly important in vapour phase storage systems, where reduced visibility inside a cold vessel makes clear sample identification more challenging.
Cryolab supplies PVC cryosleeves in packs of 100, compatible with standard cryogenic canes used in IVF laboratory storage systems. They form part of the broader category of cryopreservation consumables that complete the workflow between the individual sample container and the liquid nitrogen tank.
