Cryogenic labelling requires materials rated to withstand minus 196 degrees Celsius. Standard adhesive labels crack and fall off at liquid nitrogen temperatures, which is how identity errors occur. Purpose-made cryogenic labels, printed with a thermal transfer printer using polyester media, remain legible and adhesive even after multiple freeze-thaw cycles. Cryolab recommends a dual-identification system: a printed cryogenic label on the cane or goblet and a separate canister tag at the top of the vessel, with a corresponding digital inventory record updated at every access event.
