A dry shipper nitrogen tank is a cryogenic transport container engineered specifically for the safe movement of biological specimens at liquid nitrogen temperatures without the presence of free liquid nitrogen inside the unit. The defining feature of a dry shipper is its internal absorbent core, a porous material that is charged with liquid nitrogen before use and subsequently releases that nitrogen as cold vapour throughout the transport period, maintaining cryogenic temperatures from minus 150 to minus 196 degrees Celsius without any of the spillage risks associated with conventional liquid nitrogen containers.
You should use a dry shipper nitrogen tank rather than a standard liquid nitrogen dewar whenever the transport involves air freight or passenger air travel, whenever road or rail handling means the container may be tilted or inverted, and whenever regulatory requirements specify the use of a non-spill container. Standard dewars such as the CryoCan 30-6 or Dilvac Stainless Steel Dewar are appropriate for stationary storage and local transfers where the vessel remains upright, but they are not suitable for any application where the orientation of the container cannot be guaranteed.
Cryolabs CryoStork dry shipper range covers a full spectrum of transport requirements, from the compact CryoStork V2 for small clinical transfers through to the CryoStork V10 for extended journeys with larger specimen volumes. The Cryogenic Data Logger provides a continuous temperature record throughout every shipment for documentation purposes.
