Cryocanes are available in two primary configurations: 5-place (five sample slots) and 6-place (six sample slots). The 5-place version is suited to storing individual straws or cryovials directly in the slots. The 6-place version is the configuration most commonly used in IVF laboratories when goblets or visotubes are involved, as the slightly wider slot accepts a 13mm goblet.
Both configurations are made from lightweight aluminium, which combines structural reliability with resistance to liquid nitrogen temperatures. Standard length is approximately 290mm, designed to fit inside a round CBS canister of standard internal diameter.
When selecting a cryocane configuration for your laboratory, the key factor is what you are storing. If your protocol uses CBS visotubes and CBS Classic or Daisy Goblets, you need a goblet-compatible 6-place cane. If you are storing bare straws or standard cryovials, the 5-place version works well and maximises the number of canes per canister.
Cryolab supplies both configurations for UK laboratories. Full details and ordering are available through the storage accessories page.
